Beyond The Arc has returned as the NBA season kicks off tonight with 3 games on the slate. After witnessing a thrilling offseason that saw LeBron James punch his ticket back home to reunite with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the NBA is ready to kick off another spectacular season with some new teams looking to claw their way to the top.
8:00 PM ET – Smoothie King Center, New Orleans, LA
The Orlando Magic continued to stay the course this offseason by adding more talent to boost their rebuilding efforts. Watch out for rookies Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton as they look to make their season debuts. On the other hand, the Pelicans look to their phenom PF Anthony Davis as they attempt to battle their way into a loaded Western Conference playoff picture.
New Orleans acquired some depth talent this summer adding Omer Asik from the Houston Rockets and Alonzo Gee from the Cleveland Cavaliers in hopes of supporting the three-headed beast of Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, and Anthony Davis.
8:00 PM ET – AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX
The Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs take part in this rematch of last year’s playoff matchup which saw the Spurs defeat the Mavericks in Game 7. After the gut wrenching loss in San Antonio, Mark Cuban and his management team oversaw a complete overhaul of the previous year’s team, using the maximum cap room to fill holes and eventually secure the services of Chandler Parsons who’s previous employer, the Houston Rockets, refused to match the max offer sheet presented by the Mavericks.
San Antonio, fresh off defeating the Miami Heat in the 2014 NBA Finals, will look to the ageless Tim Duncan and the young stud Kawhi Leonard to continue last year’s brilliance. Coach Greg Popovich coached a masterclass of a season last year by maintaining the overall health of his team and having them hit their prime collectively in the postseason.
